When may a lawyer be subject to discipline?
For violating a rule of professional conduct or attempting to do so, either individually or through the acts of another
When may a lawyer be subject to discipline, regardless of whether they relate to the lawyer’s practice?
(1) Committing a criminal or deliberately wrongful act that reflects adversely on the lawyer’s honesty, trustworthiness, or fitness as a lawyer in other respects
(2) Engaging in any conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation that reflects adversely on lawyer’s fitness to practice law
When is a lawyer subject to discipline with respect to actions taken involving the judicial system?
(1) Knowingly assisting a judge in violating the rules of judicial conduct or other law
(2) Stating or implying an ability to influence a tribunal, legislative body, or public official improperly
When is a lawyer subject to discipline in Virginia?
By being admitted in VA (can be subject to discipline for acts occurring outside VA) OR by offering legal services in VA (even if not admitted)

Confidentiality, loyalty, financial responsibility, competence, and other reasonable things

Candor

Fairness
