A

A high contrast material such as Poly F or Chemfil Rock

17
Q

Talk through the stages if inside/ outside bleaching

A
  1. Remove coronal restoration
  2. Take GP down to 2mm below level of CEJ
  3. Clean walls with ultrasonic
  4. Place 1mm RMGIC over GP (not on walls)
  5. Leave tooth open and provide patient with a vital night guard bleaching tray
  6. Review
18
Q

What is micro abrasion

A

The use of acid etching and pumice to remove surface stains and superficial enamel defects or mild flourosis

19
Q

How do we carry out micro abrasion

A
  1. Rubber dam
  2. Clean tooth with water and dry
  3. Apply phosphoric acid 37% to enamel surface for 30 seconds
  4. Wash and dry
  5. Clean tooth with pumice and water slurry in slow rotation rubber prophylaxis cup
  6. Wash
  7. Repeat If necessary unto 3 application
  8. Review in one month ask repeat as needed
20
Q

What can we do with composite for cosmetic treatment

A
  1. Change shade with a composite veneer
  2. Change the shape of the teeth
  3. Close diastema
  4. Make teeth longer
  5. Make teeth wider
21
Q

what are the advantages of using composite restorations to improve aesthetics

A
  1. Non destructive
  2. No lab fees or waiting time
  3. Can alter the shape to get the right result yourself
22
Q

what are the disadvantages of using composite restorations to improve aesthetics

A
  1. reversible
  2. Stains over time leading to loss of aesthetics
  3. Needs maintenance
  4. Challenging to get aesthetics right
23
Q

What might we use before placing composite on a patients tooth to help with planning

A

Diagnostic wax up so that the lab can simulate what we are about to do

24
Q

What are veneers made up of

A

Porcelain

25
Q

Why do we sue veneers

A

They are more conservative approach than crowns

26
Q

How thick are veneers

A

0.5-1mm thick

27
Q

What cement do we use to place veneers

A

Luting cement

28
Q

Describe the qualities the luting cement must have to ensure success with veneers

A
  1. Be dual curing
  2. Cement must be of a matching shade
  3. Contain a silane couplign agent
  4. Be flowable
29
Q

Why should the cement used with veneers be dual curing

A

As light won’t properly penetrate the veneer

30
Q

Why should the cement used with veneers have a matching shade to the veneer

A

As veneers are thin so the shade of the cement can affect the outcome

31
Q

Why should the cement used with veneers contain a silane coupling agent

A

This allows for chemical body to the porcelain

32
Q

Name the luting cement we use on clinics with veneers

A

Rely x ULTIMATE with scotch bond universal

33
Q

What are the indications of Rely x ULTIMATE with scotch bond universal

  5. Veneers
  6. Posts
34
Q

What are the properties of Rely x ULTIMATE with scotch bond universal

A
  1. Self adhesive dual cure resin composite
  2. Very high bond strength to tooth and metal alloys
  3. High compressive strength 4. Acceptably low film thickness
  4. Low solubility
  5. Build in metal and ceramic primers
35
Q

How do we cement veneers

A
  1. Apply a phosphoric acid etching gel for 15 secs
  2. Rinse tooth with water for 10secs
  3. Dry tooth
  4. Apply scotch bond universal to entire surface fro 20 secs
  5. Gently air dry for 5 secs
  6. Apply scotch bond universal to the etched veneer surface
  7. Air dry veneer surface
  8. Place cement onto veneer
  9. Seat veneer with gentle pressure onto the tooth
  10. Light cure and remove excess
36
Q

Give examples of crowns

A

  2. All ceramic crowns
  3. Dentine bonded crowns
37
Q

what do we use to make all ceramic crowns

A
