What is the purpose of the OT?
To reveal God’s promise to bless all humanity, through the nation of Israel, to his own Glory (Genesis 12:1-3)

To fulfill God’s promise to bless all humanity, through his Son, to His own glory
What word summarize the promise of the OT, and what does it mean?
Promise: it is summed up in the idea of blessing: God’s kindness and favor given. All humanity is eligible for that blessing, beginning with Israel in the OT.
What is the ultimate, final purpose for God’s actions?
The glory of God. All is done for his praise.
What is a covenant?
Think promise, or agreement. The coevenants here are about 500 years apart from each other.

A way to express something. In this case, it’s God’s message.
What are some of the genres in OT Lit?
Poetry, Prophecy, Wisdom, Law, Narrative
Why does the OT contain several different genre?
To express God’s message in different ways, and make us more well rounded in our understanding of God and his revelation.
What does poetry tap into in us as humans?
There is an emotional connection, making the message sink in on a deeper level.
How does poetry put to music affect us?
This increases the intensity of the emotional content.
In what two ways does the poetry in the Bible allow us to express our relationship with God?
Rational thinking bonds and an emotional tie.
