Palmer notation (nomenclature example)
Split into quadrants
Each tooth numbered (1-8)
e.g. | (1) number in box
| (1)
What is the basic tooth structure?
Apex Root Cement Enamel Junction Crown Incisal edge
What is the surface for the anterior teeth?
Labial (but appropriate also named buccal)
What is the surface for the posterior teeth?
Buccal
What is the biting surface of the incisors and canines called?
Incisal
What is the biting surface of the premolars and molars?

Explain how a tooth can be divided into 3rds for surface descritpion?
For purposes of description, the crowns and roots of teeth have been divided into thirds, and junctions of the crown surfaces are described as line angles or point angels
What is the cusp? (tooth surfaces)
The elevation of the
crown portion of a tooth
making up a divisional part
of the occlusal surface
