Angle of Louis
What vertebral level are the jugular notch, sternal angle, and xiphisternum?
Jugular notch is T2, sternal angle is T4/5, xiphisternum is T9
Where are the thoracic neurovascular bundles located?
Between the inner and innermost intercostal muscles
What is thoracic outlet syndrome?
When nerves and vessels are trapped between the bones in the thoracic inlet
Describe the origins and attachments of the pectoralis major.
Orignates from medial third of clavicle and upper 6 costal cartilages, all fibres converge and insert into bicipital groove of humerus
What are the actions of pec major?
. Adduction and medial rotation of the arm at the shoulder joint
. Can also act as accessory muscle of respiration when pectoral girdle is fixed
What is the nerve supply of the pec major?
Medial (C5-C8) and lateral pectoral nerves (T1)
What is the origin and insertion of pec minor?
Originates from ribs 3-5 and inserts into the coracoid process of the scapula
What is the action of pec minor?
. Depresses and protracts scapula
. If pectoral girdle fixed, acts as accessory muscle of respiration
What separates the breast from the deep pectoral muscles?
The retromammary space
