Convention
A standard technique or rules that are applied to a certain situation
Continent
Large land masses on the earth’s surface
Plate
Large mass of rock that together makes up the earth’s crust.
Crust
The earth’s outer ‘skin’ made up of plates.
Equator
0oLatitude, mapping line that divides the earth into the northern and southern hemispheres.
Tropics
The area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
Latitude
Mapping lines that run parallel to each other horizontally around the earth.
Longitude
Mapping lines that run parallel to each other vertically around the earth.
Physical Map
A map showing relief and natural features
Political Map
A map showing political features such as country borders and cities.
Relief
The shape of land.
Variations of elevation on the earth’s surface.
Commonwealth
A free association of independent countries each of which recognises the Queen as the Head of the Commonwealth.
Monarch
A King or Queen that holds power.
Global corporations
Companies that have expanded into many parts of the world.
Exploitation
Taking advantage of a person or a situation for one’s own gain.
