intro to the microscope Flashcards
ocular lens
the lens to examine the slide. it generally has 10x power of magnification.
eyepiece
the piece that is closest to the eye when looking through a microscope
nosepiece
holds and rotates the objective lens to change magnification power
objective lens
lenses with various powers of magnification. there is the low (4x) medium (10x) and high power (40x)
stage
the surface upon where the slide sits
mechanical stage adjustment
the knobs the control the x and y axis of the stage
arm
supports the body of the microscope and typically houses the adjustment knob
coarse adjustment knob
moves the stage up and down to change the distance from the objective lens. it allows a grossly focused image.
lamp
provides a light souse. it rests on the base of the microscope. light from the lamp is focused on the specimen by the condenser that sits under the stage
find adjustment knob
smaller knob under the coarse knob that fine tunes images
iris diaphragm
controls the amount of light allowed to pass through the slide
