Intro to the Heart Flashcards
What is the normal pressure in the aorta?
100-120 mmHg
What is the normal pressure in the pulmonary artery?
10-20 mmHg
What is the normal pressure in the vena cava?
5-10 mmHg
What is the normal pressure in the pulmonary veins?
10-15 mmHg
What is regurgitation?
-valves cannot close properly so there is blood flow backwards
What is stenosis?
-when valves harden so they are more difficult to open
Where is the mitral valve?
-between left atrium and left ventricle
Where is the tricuspid valve?
-between right atrium and right ventricle
Where is the pulmonary valve?
-between right ventricle and pulmonary artery
Where is the aortic valve?
-between the left ventricle and the aorta
What is the SAN?
-sinoatrial node
-pacemaker of the heart: 60-100 bpm
-junction of crista terminalis; upper wall of right atrium & opening of superior vena cava
(-cardiac myocyte)
What is the AVN?
-atrioventricular node
-has pacemaker activity: slow calcium mediated action potential
-triangle of Koch at base of right atrium
(-excitable cardiac cell)
What are the Bundles of HIs and bundle branches?
- specialised myocytes
- AV node to His bundle to branches at intraventricular septum to apex
What are the Purkinje fibres?
-specialised conducting fibres
What are the arteries that supply the heart?
- right coronary artery
- left circumflex
- left anterior descending
