sphincter means
to close tight

abnormal swallowing
diffculty swallowing any liquids, solids, or any size of bolus due to damage or removal of the muscles or structures involved in swallowing
to swallow we use
-lips
-tongue
-soft palate
-base of tongue
-epiglottis
-vocal folds
-laryngeal vestibule
-hyoid bone
-esophagus
aspirations
anything that passes the level of vocal folds
penetration
the presence of foods or fluids down near the vocal folds but not below the vocal folds (hasnt been aspirated yet)
aspiration pneumonia
pulmonary infection resulting from acute or chronic aspiration of fluids, foods, or oral secretions from the mouth, or from fluids rising from the stomach
nosocomial pneumonia
bacterial infections - often referred to as hospital acquired pneumonia
community acquired pneumonia
acquired resulting from lung infection not from a hopsitalized condition
