What is oral surgery?
A branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of oral conditions requiring surgical intervention. A branch of dentistry that deals with conditions of the mouth and jaws requiring surgery.
Approach to clinic and what to write in clinical notes
Approach to clinic:
- Come to clinic early and check notes on salud.
- Check radiographs
- Details on whiteboard: pt details, procedure, allergies, MH
- Correct site surgery fill out before procedure
Clinical notes:
Date, operator & assistant, LA (amount used, batch number, expiry date), state procedure (how tooth was removed), if closure was necessary, haemostasis achieved, post-op instructions both verbally and written, if any antibiotics or analgesics were given, signed by tutor and student

extraction under sedation/GA
Intended benefits of extraction
Remove source of pain and infection
Serious or frequently occurring risks of extraction
Pain, bleeding, swelling, bruising, infection, stitches
