Intro to One Health Flashcards
What is one health?
One Health is a comprehensive approach to health that focuses on:
1) Improving health and well-being through the prevention of risks &
the mitigation of effects of crises (e.g. emerging diseases) that
originate at the interface between humans, animals & their
environments.
2) Promoting multi- (cross-)sectoral collaborations and a “whole of
society” treatment of health hazards, as a systemic change of perspective in the management of risk.
What is the scope of one health?
Zoonotic disease, emerging disease, multi-host pathogens, food safety, food security (farming practices), antimicrobial resistance, mental health, obesity, climate change, etc.
Applies across research, education, policy & practice.
