Specific cause unknown: Association with Smoking, antibiotics, chlorhexidine mouthwash, poor oral hygiene
Black Hairy Tongue Tx?
Reassure
Stop smoking
Stay hydrated
Lightly brush the tongue
Peach stones
Bony Exostosis
benign overgrowth of calcified bone
30-40% population
Bony Exostosis presentation?
Palate – Torus palatinus
Mandible – torus mandibularis (typically lingually)
Or on buccal alveolus
Bony Exostosis Differential
Gardners Syndrome manifestation (rare polyposis syndrome)
form at atypical site
ask for GI issues
Physiological pigmentation
non-white
increased melanin
consider addison’s, smokers melanosis, drug related
