What is Medical-Surgical Nursing?
It’s a challenging and dynamic type of nursing that involves caring for acutely ill adults experiencing complex variations in health. The scope is broad and the nurse practicing in this area is expected to acquire and maintain a great deal of knowledge and skill.
What is critical thinking?
It’s the process used to examine & analyze pt issues at the point of care. It consists of identifying a change in a pt’s status, taking into account the context & concerns of the pt, and finally deciding what to do about it.
What is evidence-informed practice?
It improves pt outcomes.
It is the continuous practice that considers the best available evidence to provide care. These can include: protocols, policies and clinical pathways.
What is a clinical practice guideline?
It’s based on summaries of the literature (evidence syntheses and systemic reviews).
Clinicians then translate the knowledge into a guideline, implement is through practice changes and then evaluate it in producing the intended health outcomes.
What does clinical decision making include?
1) Pt preference or values.
2) Your clinical expertise.
3) What the evidence tells you (research & clinical findings).
What are the 4 parts of clinical expertise?
1) Clinical state, setting, and circumstances.
2) Pt preferences & actions.
3) Research evidence.
4) Health care resources.
What is the nursing process and what are the 5 phases?
It’s a problem-solving approach to identification and treatment of pt health problems
