Intro to Infectious Disease Flashcards
Epidemic
Sudden severe outbreak of a disease that spreads rapidly through the population
Endemic

Sporadic
Disease that occur at irregular intervals or only in a few places; scattered or isolated.

What are the four methods of transmission of infectious disease?
water-borne
vector-borne
food borne
airborne
Signs
Evidence of disease found or seen by doctors.
Symptoms
Evidence of disease felt or explained by patient
Reservoir
A place where potentially pathogenic microorganisms can survive and may be transferred onto patients / natural habitat.
Opportunistic infections
Infections that occur more often / more severe in people with weakened immune systems
