Someone who is not a Canadian citizen, but has the right to enter and remain in Canada.
What are the residency obligations of a permanent resident?
A PR must live in Canada for 730 days of every five years or risk losing his permanent resident status

To whom does the term “Registered Indian” apply?
To persons registered under the Indian Act of Canada
How do Registered Indians enter Canada?
By right, according to section 19(1) of IRPA
What documents would Registered Indians present when entering Canada?
A Certificate of Indian Status (CIS) or a Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS)
What is the definition of temporary resident?
A foreign national that is neither a Canadian citizen nor a permanent resident but who is legally in Canada for a temporary purpose
What are the three types of temporary resident?
Visitor
Student
Worker
What is the standard maximum length of time that a visitor (TR) can remain in Canada?
6 months - they need to apply to extend beyond that
Can a student temporary resident work while studying?
Only on campus otherwise they require a study/work permit
What do Convention Refugees and Persons in Need of Protection require in order to be allowed entry into Canada by law?
Travel documents issued to them by the Minister of Foreign Affairs that are valid for return to Canada
What does the IPIL system do?
It provides the ability to query travellers as they present themselves at PIL by scanning passports into the system
What two systems are searched when a document is scanned at PIL?
ICES - Integrated Customs Enforcement System
FOSS - Field Operational Support System
