intro to hormones in the body Flashcards
where are the hormone gland located in the body?
here
where is the location of the pituitary gland ? (hypophysis)
The pituitary gland is no larger than a pea, and is located at the base of the brain.
The gland is attached to the hypothalamus (a part of the brain that affects the pituitary gland) by nerve fibers and blood vessels.
what is the master gland of the brain ?
pituitary gland
what are the two hormonal stimuli ?
neurohypophysis and adenohypophysis
what is neurohypophysis ?
it is the production of ADH and oxytocin
direct release into posterior lobe and to the respective organs
what is adenohypophysis in hypothalamus?
secretion of regulatory hormones to control activity of the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland
and from anterior lobe , hormone produced and secreted to control other organs
what is the neural stimuli of the hypothalamus ?
control of sympathetic output to the adrenal medulla
secretion of epinephrine and norepinephrine
what is another name for neurohypophysis?
pars nervosa
what is another name for adeohypophysis ?
pars distalis
what is pars intermedia ?
in between the anterior and posterior
produces MSH which produces melanocytes
the change in ACTH can cause release of melanocytes
what is the pathway of thyroid hormone release ?
TRH
TSH
target thyroid gland and produce thyroid hormones
what is the pathway of glucocorticoids in the body?
CRH
ACTH
target suprarenal cortex
glucocorticoids
