Q

give the different methods of obtaining biopsy tissue

A

incision or punch biopsy
- skin/oral surfaces
needle biopsy
- organs or lumps below skin
- Imaging techniques usually used to guide biopsy
endoscopic biopsy
- flexible tube with light and cameral - cutting tools can b used to collect tissue specimens

Q

Cell staining techniques

A

Haematoxylin and Eosin (H and E)
- most commonly used
- haemotolixylin is a basic dye, which staines acidic structures (e.g. nucleic acids) blue/purple
- Eosin acidic and stains basic structures (such as cytoplasmic proteins) red or pink

PAS
Masson trichrome
- stains connective tissues
