Intro to Genomics Flashcards
1
Q
What is the difference between genomics and genetics?
A
Genetics is the study of how traits are passed down generations and the roles of genes in that process, whereas genomics is the study of the entire DNA sequence that contains the complete set of genes for an organism.
2
Q
Genetics is the study of the human genome, what are the other ‘omes’?
A
Transcriptome- Total RNA content produced
Proteome- Total protein content produced
Epigenome- Changes in marks on DNA strands or in histones / Epigenetic signals
Metagenome- Genomes of all organisms from a specific location/ Microorganisms
Connectome- Brain connections
Interactome- Protein interactions
