Forensics
The study and application of science in solving crimes
Induction Reasoning
This refers to reasoning that takes specific information and makes a broader generalization that is considered probable, but sometimes the conclusion is not accurate. (EX–Harold is a grandpa, Harold is bald, therefore all grandpas are bald)
Deduction Reasoning
This is when people make specific conclusions based on a “general premise” (scientific principal–used to explain the reasoning) EX–“all elephants are animals, dumbo is an elephant, therefore Dumbo is an animal”
Evidence
Usable in court , obtained by scientific methods such as: ballistics, blood tests and DNA
Violation
A broken law that can be a minor or a major crime
Infraction
A minor offense and the penalty is generally a “FINE”
Felony
More serious crimes, involving going to court/trial and penalty can vary from minimum jail time to the death penalty
Misdemeanor
Offenses that could result in jail time or payment of fines and are generally heard in district courts
Miranda Rights
Rights given when arrested making someone aware that their statements could be used against them. 1. The right to remain silent 2. The right to speak to an attorney 3. If you can not afford a lawyer a lawyer will be provided for you
Eye Witness
An individual who was present during an event and is called by a party in a law suit or criminal case to testify as to what he or she observed.
Probable cause
Police have reason to believe that a person should be arrested, it allows the police to legally search for an seize evidence.
What is (ATF) and what do they investigate ?
ATF–alcohol and tobacco and firearms Investigate–cases involving alcohol, tobacco, and firearms, trafficking and the illegal usage and production of alcohol, tobacco and firearms.
What is ( DEA) and what do they investigate ?
DEA–drug enforcement administration Investigate–drug cases and gang/mob activities related to drugs
What is (FBI) and what do they investigate ?
FBI– federal bureau of investigation Investigate–forensic imaging, hazardous evidence, finger printing, and hair And fiber blood sampling
