Level 1 (resuscitation)
immediate, life-saving intervention required without delay
ex. cardiac arrest, massive bleeding
level 2 ( emergent)
high risk of deterioration, or signs of a time-critical problem
ex. cardiac-related chest pain, asthma attack
level 3 (urgent)
stable, with multiple types of resources needed to investigate or treat (such as lab tests plush-ray imaging)
ex) abdominal pain, high fever with cough
level 4 (less urgent)
stable, with only one type of resource anticipated (such as only x-ray, or only sutures)
ex. simple laceration, pain on urination
level 5 (non urgent)
stable, with no resources anticipated except oral or topical, or prescriptions
ex. rash, prescription refill
Primary survey
identify immediate life threatening injury
- airway
- breathing
- circulation
- disability
- exposure
Airway survey
- patency, signs of obstruction
- adequate oxygenation and ventilation
- expose neck and chest
- pulse ox
secondary survey
- head to toe exam
- medical history (AMPLE)
- lab and radiology
- management
medical history (AMPLE)
allergies, medication, past illnesses/pregnancy, last meal, events
