Intro to Dysrhythmias Flashcards

1
Q

What is telemetry monitoring?

A

Continuous observation of HR and rhythm to alert to possible dysrhythmias

  • at the bedside
  • CMS- central monitoring system

Not fail proof check your patient

Q

What is Electrocardiogram Monitoring?

A

Graphic tracing of electrical impulses produced by the heart

Waveforms of ECG represent activity of charged ions across membranes of myocardial cells

Q

What is the dip at the end of the P wave, before Q showing us?

A

transmission of electrical current from the SA node to the AV node

8
Q

What is the distance from the beginning of the P wave to the Q called? What is it measuring?

A

PR interval, R is referring to the R wave. it is a time interval, if the PR interval takes too long you have a conduction problem from the SA to the AV node

Q

What is the ST segment?

What does it represent?

A

the end of R wave to the T wave, it represents repolarization of the ventricles

Q

Can we see atrial relaxation?

A

no, it is masked by QRS activity

14
Q

How long is the PR interval?

What if it takes longer?

A

0.12 to 0.20 seconds

If it is longer there is a problem with conduction between the atria and the ventricle

16
Q

What is the time measurement of the itty bitty boxes?

A

0.04 seconds

17
Q

What is the time measurement of the larger boxes?

A

0.20 seconds

18
Q

How many seconds are the test strips measured in?

A

6 seconds

19
Q

How do you remember where to put the tele leads?

A

‘Snow’ on the grass (R), smoke over fire (L) & chocolate next to my heart

white on the right

20
Q

What is the difference between tele and an ecg?

A

Continuous Unidimensional View
Monitoring Only vs. Snapshot in Time
Routine or STAT Multidimensional View (12)
Diagnostic

21
Q

What do we need to know about reading a 12 lead ecg?

A

If there are two contiguous leads - next to each other on the monitor strip with elevated ST elevations, that can dx a STEMI

22
Q

What is artifact?

A

irregularity in the ECG lead that is not coming from the patient
