Intro to Dental Radiology Flashcards

1
Q

What are the 3 principles of radiation protection?

A
  1. Justification
    - Why the benefits outweigh the risk
  2. Optimisation
    - ALARA
    - As low as reasonably achievable
  3. Dose limitation
    - For radiation workers NOT patients

Q

Name 2 advantages of a CBCT > CT

A
  1. Rotates around the patients head in one single rotation and captures all the data, unlike the CT scan which collects flat slices over several rotations –> exposing patient to a higher level of radiation
  2. Can be used in a dentist whereas CT requires a hospital setting

    - Occlusal
    - Buccal
    - Lingual

  2. Trauma
  3. Pulpal pathology
  4. Non carious tooth surface loss
  5. Root pathology
  6. Supporting bone
17
Q

Whats a key difference between an occlusal radiograph and periapicals/BWs?

A

Larger image receptor
