Intro to decomposition Flashcards
Metabolic processes are fuelled by?
Adenosine Triphoshpate
Where is ATP produced
Cristae of the mitochondria
What is Autolysis?
‘self digestion’ –release of lysosomal enzymes
What is Putrefaction
bacterial mediated decompostition
How does autolysis work?
Lack of ATP after death causes the loss of the structure of thje membrane. The balance causes cell swells and causes lysozomes to leak out
Where is the first places to be affected by autolysis
Occurs first in most metabolically active cells
•Intestines, stomach, heart, blood
•Air passages and lungs
Tache Noire Sclerotique?
Early change post mortem in which a reddish-brown discoloration is transversely arranged across the sclera.
Desiccation
Post mortem drying is not uncommon in extremities, lips, gentalia
How is Skin Slippage caused?
Caused by the release of hydrolytic enzymes by cells at the dermal-epidermal junction
Results in loosening of the epidermis
Pallor Mortis
paleness of light skin resulting from cessation of blood and draining of blood from upper areas
Putrefactive changes?
Marbling
Discolouration
Bloating
Odour
Adipocere?
a greyish waxy substance formed by the decomposition of soft tissue in dead bodies
