intro to cloud computing Flashcards
What is Cloud Computing
“A model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand
network access to a shared pool of configurable computing
resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and
services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with
minimal management effort or service provider
interaction.”
Cloud Computing Attributes
❖ On-demand self-service
❖ Anytime, Anywhere; often with 99.9% (three nines) to 99.999% (five nines) uptime
guarantee
❖ Accessible via Internet
❖ Requires broad network access; slow service response time impairs usability
❖ Rapid elasticity
❖ Rapid resource scaling, e.g., dealing with ‘flash crowd’
❖ Utility computing
❖ Metered like utilities, e.g. water, gas, electricity
Deployment Models: Public
The infrastructure is made available to the general public or a large industry group.
Deployment Models: Hybrid
the infrastructure is a composition of two or more clouds that remain unique entities but are bound together.
Deployment Models: Community
The infrastructure is shared by several organisations; typically externally hosted but may be hosted by the organisations.
Deployment Models: Private
The infrastructure is operated solely for an organisation; can be internally or externally hosted
