Intro To Anatomy Flashcards
Axial skeleton
Skull, vertebral column, ribs, sternum
Appendicular skeleton
Upper limb (clavicle, scapula, humerus, ulna, radius, 8 carpals, 5 metacarpals, 14 phalanges), lower limb (pelvis- 6 bones, femur, patella, tibia, fibula, 7 tarsals, 5 metatarsals, 14 phalanges)
Types of joint
Synovial (allows movement)
Solid (inhibits movement)
Types of synovial joint
Pivot (between 1&2 vertebrae)
Ball and socket (hip)
Hinge (elbow)
Saddle (between trapezium carpal & 1st metacarpal)
Plane (between tarsal bones)
Condyloid (between radius & carpal bone of wrist)
Types of solid joint
Fibrous (eg syndesmosis, gomphosis, sutures)
Cartilagenous (eg synchondrosis, symphysis)
What is fascia?
Web-like connective tissue that surrounds & supports muscles & organs
Difference between tendons & ligaments
Tendons- link muscle to bone
Ligaments- link bone to bone
