intro + symtoms Flashcards
LIF organs?
descending colon, sigmoid colon, loops of small bowel, ureter
LIF common diagnoses?
Pseudomembranous colitis?
an acute inflammatory condition of the bowel that is usually, but not always, caused by Clostridium difficile.
Other diagnoses in menstrating women?
ectopic pregnancy, mittelschmerz or haemorrhage into a functional ovarian cyst.
Other diagnoses in men?
testicular torsion, haemorrhage into a testicular tumour.
LIF pain site?
pain that is initially poorly localized, midline, and colicky but then migrates to the LIF and becomes constant is acute diverticulitis.
Pain that migrates down the left flank and iliac fossa is migration of a ureteric stone
LIF pain onset?
sudden onset is a perforation of a viscus or acute haemorrhage or torsion.
LIF pain character?
acute diverticulitis is preceded by colicky midline pain.
Established diverticulitis would produce constant pain.
Sharp pain is haemorrhage, perforation or torsion.
LIF pain radiation?
ureteric pain is loin to groin
LIF pain alleviating factors?
IBS discomfort is relieved by defecation.
Peritonitic patients lie still.
LIF pain timing?
IBS patients have suffered discomfort for months or years.
Acute diverticulitis is 2-3 days and maybe a previous episode.
LIF pain exacerbating factors?
peritonitis are sensitive to motion.
LIF pain severity?
Ureteric colic is severe, as is colonic perforation secondary to diverticulitis or a sigmoid carcinoma.
LIF associated symptoms nausea and vomitng?
acute diverticulitis or pelvic inflammatory disease.
LIF associated symptoms fever?
underlying infective or inflammatory disease (acute diverticulitis).
