Psychoanalysis
A state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual well being…not merely the absence of disease or infirmity
Health
- cope/function normally
- meet responsibilities
- balanced attitude towards day to day challenges/problems
Mental Health
- Patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that make a person unique
- arises from within the individual and remains fairly consistent throughout life
Personality
- Quality or state of being aware of an external object or something within oneself
- Assessed by observing a patient’s arousal and responsiveness
- Can be seen as a continuum of states
Consciousness
-Ability to register and retain material from previous experience
Memory
How long is short term memory?
5-10 minutes
How long is long term memory?
days to years
Made up of content, sequence, logic, insight, and judgement
Thought
Global term for the way in which a person perceives the world through senses
Perception
Ability to place objects in relation to each other
Structural perception
Sensory experiences perceived only by the patient
Hallucinations
Incorrect perception of objects seen by both the patient and the observer
