Q

suspensory ligament of ovary

A

found in carnivores, a peritoneal fold,
thickened along its free margin, that
attaches to the transverse fascia close
to the last rib in the dog, in the cat
reaches the diaphragm and allows the
ovary greater mobility

Q

proper ligament of the ovary

A

extends from the caudal pole of the
ovary to the adjacent tip of the horn
of the uterus

Q

Fornix

A

a blind ended intrusion of
the cervix into the cranial part of the
vagina reduces the lumen of this part
to a potentially ringlike space known
as the fornix. It is only a ventral space
in the dog.

Q

vestibular glands

A

more caudal within the vestibule, secretes lubrication nescessary for coitus and partuition

Q

Gartners ducts

A

remnants of the mesonephric ducts that might be found in the broad ligament parallel with
the lateral uterine tube and lateral walls of vagina and cervix (more often seen in cattle)

Q

what does the cranial part of the broad ligament hang and suspend

A

hang vertically, suspend the ovary, uterine tube and horn of the uterus

12
Q

what does the caudal part of the broad ligament hang and suspend

A

passes more horizontally, attaches to the side of the body of the uterus, cervix and cranial part of the vagina

15
Q

mesovarium

A

distal from its attachment inot the abdominal roof, mesovarium supports ovary

16
Q

mesosalpinx

A

mesovarium releases lateral fold that passes onto the uterine tube

17
Q

round ligament of the uterus

A

a cord of fibrous tissue and smooth muscle, passes from the tip of the horn of the
uterus toward (and in the bitch, through) the inguinal canal, it is supported by a special fold detached from the
lateral surface of the broad ligament

18
Q

ovarian bursa

A

fusion of the mesovarium and mesosalpinx that entrap the ovary

19
Q

describe the path of blood supply to the uterus from the aorta

A

aorta branches into ovarian artery then uterine artery

20
Q

describe the path of blood supply from the aorta all the way to the urethra in female carnivores

A

from aorta –> internal illiac –> internal pudendal which branches into both the vaginal and urethral arteries. The vaginal artery then branches into uterine atery.

21
Q

male urethra boundaries (pelvic vs penile parts)

A

pelvic part: very short first part leaded from the bladder and completely surrounded by prostate gland

penile part: thin sleeve of spongy tissue within the striated urethralis muscle

22
Q

ductus deferens

A

tubular structure, carries spermatozoa from the epididymis to the urethra, gains access to the lumen of the urethra via the openings to the deferent ducts within the seminal colliculus

23
Q

genital fold

A

located on the dorsal surface of the bladder between the two deferent ducts, ventral
to this fold is the vesicogenital pouch of the peritoneal cavity

24
Q

ampullary gland

A

enlargement of the distal end of the deferent duct lying on the bladder, enlargement is due to glandular tissue in the mucosa and not a widening of the lumen; small and hard to see in doggies

25
Q

prostate gland

A

present in all domestic species, in some it consists of two parts; one is diffusely
spread within the pelvic wall of the urethra, and the other is a compact body placed external to the
urethralis, both parts drain by very small prostatic ducts which are found just rostral to the
ejaculatory duct on the seminal colliculus

26
Q

seminal colliculus

A

thickening on the dorsal surface of the bladder, contains openings of the
deferent duct and prostatic ducts

27
Q

path of blood supply in male carnivores from the aorta to the urethra (and everything in between)

A

aorta –> testicular and internal illiac. Internal illiac –> internal pudendal –> prostatic and urethral. Prostatic into artery of ductus deferens
