Anatomy
Structure of Parts
Physiology
How Parts Function
Levels of Organization
atoms, chemical, organelles, cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, organism
The real C.O.D. for anyone is
the extreme and irreversible loss of homeostasis
Homeostasis
the ability of all living systems to maintain stable, internal conditions no matter what changes are occurring outside the body
Anatomical Position
Body is erect and facing forward, with arms at the sides and palms forward
Saggital Plane (Median Plane)
vertical cut dividing the body into left and right parts down the middle
Parasagittal plane
vertical cut dividing the body into unequal left and right parts down a line parallel and to the side of a sagittal or median Plane cut.
Coronal/Frontal Plane
vertical cut dividing the body into front and back
Transverse Plane
(a.k.a. Horizintal Plane) b.c. = horizontal cut dividing the body into top and bottom
Axial Parts
Head, neck, body (everything in line with the center of the body)
Appendicular Parts
appendages, everything that attaches to the axial parts (arms, legs)
Anterior/Ventral
Front of the body
Posterior/Dorsal
Back of the body
Superior(a.k.a. cranial)
towards the top of the body
