Q

2 major reasons to survey?

A

Provides standard information for planning of future activities, assess cost/values of stand and overall operation. Allows gov’t to evaluate the state of crown forested land.

Proves completion of legal obligation to restock
(Regen Delay and Free Growing).

Q

Early vs Late Free growing?

A

Early Free Growing Date is the earliest a free growing assessment can be made that determines a healthy crop of preferred or acceptable well spaced trees are of a minimum height and free of competing vegetation. Somewhat flexible.

• Late Free Growing Date is the latest a stand can be declared Free Growing without the licensee incurring a penalty.

Q

Why do we survey?

A

Surveying is done to prove your prescription decisions. Takes a small number of plots and extrapolates to obtain stand volume.
