Intro Flashcards
What is refraction of light?
The bending of light due to change in the speed when it travels from one medium to another
Things observed in Rarer medium
Optical density is less
Speed of light is more
Light travels faster
Things observed in Denser medium
Optical density is more
Speed of light is less
Light travels slower
Any one effects caused by the Refraction of light
An object placed under water appears to be raised
A pool of water appears to be less deep than it actually is
Why does a ray of light bends when it travels from one medium to another
Due to the change in speed
What is Angle of Incidence?
The angle between incident ray and the normal in the point of intersection is known as the Angle of Incidence
What is Angle of Refraction?
The angle between refracted ray and the normal in the point of intersection is known as the Angle of Refraction
What is Angle of Emergence?
The angle between emergent ray and the normal is know as the Angle of emergence
When does the ray bend towards the normal
When a ray of light goes from Rarer to Denser medium
When does the ray bend away from the normal
When a ray of light goes from Denser to Rarer medium
What is Lateral Displacement?
The perpendicular distance between the original path of the incident ray and the emergent ray coming out of a glass slab is called Lateral Displacement
