Define interactional synchrony (mirror)
When two people interact in a mirror pattern in terms of their emotional, facial and body movements.
Support for IS: Moore Study Aim:
Observed the beginnings of interactional synchrony in babies as young as 2 weeks
Moore study Method:
An adult displayed 1 of 3 facial expressions / 1 of 3 distinctive gestures
Moore study Results:
An association was found between the expression/gesture the adult had displayed and the actions of the babies
Support for Synchrony: Isabella et al (high levels)
High levels of synchrony were associated with better quality mother-infant attachment.
When do the majority of babies become attached to their mothers?
Around 7 months
