Why is concrete used
A
Concrete is very durable, but it needs to be
regularly inspected & maintained.
It’s readily available throughout the world
Cheap compared to other materials like steel
It is weak when loaded in Tension or Shear
Systems have developed that overcome this
but these increase the complexity & the cost.
