What are the three different types of crime?
Time relative, culturally relative and age relative
What are offender surveys?
Asking people to report the crimes they have committed
What are victims surveys?
They are collected from people who have been victims of crime and also ask people if they have been victims
What are official statistics?
Collected by official bodies and used in England and Wales to show crimes reported to and recorded by the police
Outline one strength and one weakness of offender surveys
One strength is that they can identify potential risk factors of where crimes happen and what crimes occur
One weakness is that they may be unreliable as it may conceal more serious crimes or exaggerate the amount of crimes that happen

One strength is it shows trends and they are quite likely to be truthful
One weakness is they rely on accurate recall and some information may be misremembered due to trauma

One weakness is that police often distort the statistics to make crime rates unreliable
