Intrinsic muscles of foot Flashcards
Origin of abductor hallucis?
Medial tubercle of calcaneus and plantar aponeurosis
Insertion of abductor hallucis?
Medial side of proximal phalanx of great toe with tendon of flexor hallucis brevis
Action of abductor hallucis?
Abducts and flexes great toe at metatarsophalangeal joint
Innervation of abductor hallucis?
Medial plantar nerve (S1-S3)
Origin of flexor digitorum brevis?
Medial tubercle of calcaneus and plantar aponeurosis
Insertion of flexor digitorum brevis?
Plantar surface of base of middle phalanges II-V
Action of flexor digitorum brevis?
Flexes toes II-V at proximal interphalangeal joints and at metatarsophalangeal joints
Innervation of flexor digitorum brevis?
Medial plantar nerve (S1-S3)
Origin of abductor digiti minimi?
Medial and lateral tubercles of the calcaneus
Insertion of abductor digiti minimi?
Lateral aspect of proximal phalanx of 5th digit
Action of abductor digiti minimi?
Abducts and flexes little toe at metatarsophalangeal joint
Innervation of abductor digiti minimi?
Lateral plantar nerve (S1-S3)
Origin of flexor accessorius (quadratus plantae)?
Medial and lateral tubercles of the calcaneus
Action of quadratus plantae?
Assists the flexor digitorum longus in flexion of the II-V digits of phalanges at interphalangeal and metatarsophalangeal joints
Insertion of quadratus plantae?
Tendon of flexor digitorum longus
Innervation of quadratus plantae?
Lateral plantar nerve (S2-S3)
Origin of lumbricals?
From tendons of the FDL: First lumbrical originates from the medial aspect of the tendon inserting on the second toe, the following three lumbricals originate on adjacent sides of the tendons
Insertion of lumbricals?
Medial side extensor hood and base proximal phalanx of lateral 4 toes
Action of lumbricals?
Flexes toes II-V at metatarsophalangeal joints and extends toes II-V at interphalangeal joints
Innervation of lumbricals?
First lumbrical is supplied by medial plantar nerve (S1-S2) and the other three are supplied by the lateral plantar nerve (S2-S3)
Origin of adductor hallucis?
Oblique head: Plantar surfaces of metatarsals II-IV
Transverse head: Plantar surface of the lateral three metatarsophalangeal joints and their ligaments
Insertion of adductor hallucis?
Lateral side of the proximal phalanx of great toe
Action of adductor hallucis?
Adducts the great toe at metatarsophalangeal joint
Innervation of adductor hallucis?
Lateral plantar nerve (S2-S3)
