Intrinsic Muscles Flashcards
What is the origin of the superior longitudinal muscle?
Submucosal connective tissue at the back of the tongue; median septum of tongue
What is the insertion of the superior longitudinal muscle?
The submucosal connective tissue and mucosa tissue on margin of the tongue
What is the function of the superior longitudinal muscle?
Shorten tongue; curl apex and sides of tongue
What is the origin of the inferior longitudinal muscle
Root of the tongue, whilst some fibers are from the hyoid bone)
What is the apex of the inferior longitudinal muscle?
Apex of the tongue
What is the function of the inferior longitudinal tongue?
Shortens tongue; uncurls apex and turns it downwards
What is the origin of the transverse muscle?
Median septum of the tongue
What is the insertion of the transverse muscle?
Submucosal connective tissue on lateral margins of tongue
What is the function of the transverse muscle?
Narrows and elongates the tongue
What is the origin of the vertical muscle?
Submucosal tissue on dorsum of tongue
What is the insertion of the vertical muscle?
Connective tissue in more ventral regions of the tongue
What is the function of the vertical muscle?
Flattens and widens tongue
