What is an intraductal papilloma?

A
A benign tumour which is the result of proliferation of epithelial cells within one of the breast ducts
Although an intraductal papilloma itself is benign, it is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer

Describe the clinical features of intraductal papilloma
A
- Nipple discharge (typically clear or bloodstained)
- Mastalgia
- Breast lump

A
Must be investigated to exclude breast cancer (triple assessment)

A
Complete surgical excision
