Intox Flashcards
Definition of the Intox EC/IR II
An approved instrument which analyzes samples of deep lung air and reports the results in milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Henry’s Law
At a given temperature saturated vapour above a solution contains a concentration of solute proportional to the concentration of the solute in the solution.
3 factors that affect breath test results.
Breath temperature, mouth alcohol, and shallow blow.
Margin of acceptability
10% of the target value
Two analytical techniques
Infrared and fuel cell
Infrared (IR)
Residual alcohol in the mouth
Fuel cell (EC)
Blood alcohol content

Sample acceptance criteria
- Minimum flow rate of 12L/min
- Minimum volume of 1.5L
- 5% drop in flow after minimum volume reached
Criteria for PBT
- Two diagnostic tests have passed
- Two suitable samples which agree within 20mg% of each other
- Two alcohol standard tests within 10% of the target value
