Q

What were the aims of the big three for the Treaty of Versailles?

A
  • USA- Wilson (idealist); wanted peace. League of Nations and disarmament. Sled-determination in Europe.
  • Britain- Lloyd George (realist); Justice not revenge (although British people wanted to ‘make Germany pay’). Not too harsh. Expand British empire. Increase British trade.
  • France- Clemenceau (extremist); wanted revenge and to punish Germany harshly. Weaken Germany so can’t attack again. Rhineland as a buffer zone.
