Q

Tell me about yourself

A

First off I want to thank you for the opportunity to be here today.

I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona, with a degree in education where I developed my skills in communication and professionalism. During my time there, I developed a deep appreciation for the impact education can have on individuals’ lives. Also,i am currecntly enrolled in courses at Rio Hondo College to complete my fire science classes. Where I plan on finishing by the end of this year.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work as both a preschool teacher and a substitute teacher. These roles allowed me to cultivate integrity and compassion in my interactions with students, families, and colleagues.

In addition to my professional pursuits, I prioritize my physical and mental well-being by participating in CrossFit training five times a week. Also, on the weekends I like to volunteer with Surfrider Foundation by either doing beach cleanups amd restoring parks.

Q

tell about a time you had to overcome a conflict

A

Situation: while working on an ongoing project at my preschool, one team member would consistently not show up to meetings, leaving my other teammates and me to take on extra tasks to hit our targets.

The team was getting frustrated and we knew we had to find a solution.

I approached this colleague to explain the situation and ask if there was anything else going on that meant he could not come to the meetings. He explained that the weekly meetings were on his busiest day, and he was struggling with scheduling in time for this project.

We were able to move the meetings to a more suitable day for him, and also more clearly define the weekly tasks of each person. He began joining meetings and we actually improved the efficiency of the meetings. We hit all our targets in this project.

This experience taught me valuable lessons in problem-solving, collaboration, and flexibility—qualities that are essential for success in the fast-paced and dynamic field of emergency medical services (EMS). As an EMT, I understand the importance of working closely with my colleagues to overcome challenges and deliver the highest standard of care to patients

A

One of my most prominent characteristics is my deep-seated passion for serving the community and upholding integrity, which has been exemplified through my experiences as a teacher and volunteer.

In my role as a teacher, I’ve had the privilege of not only educating young minds but also instilling values of compassion, empathy, and responsibility in my students. Through innovative lesson plans and personalized attention, I’ve strived to empower my students to become active and engaged members of their communities.

Additionally, I’ve dedicated significant time and effort to volunteering in my community, particularly through park refurbishment projects. By collaborating with local organizations and fellow volunteers, I’ve contributed to creating safe and vibrant spaces for families to enjoy outdoor activities. These experiences have reinforced my belief in the importance of giving back and making a positive impact where it’s needed most.

One characteristic that I recognize as potentially challenging is my perfectionism. While striving for perfection can sometimes lead to heightened stress, it can also drive a strong sense of attention to detail and a commitment to thoroughness.

In the firefighting profession, where precision and accuracy can be a matter of life and death, my tendency towards perfectionism could ensure that every task is executed with the utmost care and precision. Whether it’s conducting equipment checks, implementing safety protocols, or executing rescue operations, my meticulous approach could contribute to maintaining the highest standards of safety and effectiveness.

Moreover, my perfectionist nature could also translate into a strong sense of accountability and responsibility. I would hold myself to high standards and take ownership of my actions. Additionally, my perfectionist mindset could foster a culture of continuous improvement within the fire department. By constantly seeking ways to enhance our processes, refine our techniques, and learn from our experiences, we can ensure that we’re always evolving and adapting to meet the ever-changing demands of the job.

Q

tell me about a time you had a conflict with a coworker

A

As a new teacher entering the staff room filled with seasoned educators. Some of the veteran teachers seemed skeptical of my abilities, perhaps questioning whether I had what it took to excel in the demanding profession of teaching.

However, I refused to let their doubts deter me. Instead, I embraced the challenge head-on, determined to prove myself through hard work, dedication, and a willingness to learn. I immersed myself in lesson planning, professional development workshops, and sought guidance from mentors whenever possible.

Through perseverance and a commitment to continuous improvement, I gradually began to earn the respect of my colleagues. They observed my dedication to my students, witnessed the effort I put into refining my teaching techniques.

Over time, I transformed from the “new teacher” to a valued member of the teaching staff, contributing ideas, collaborating on projects, and even mentoring other new teachers who followed in my footsteps. My ability to carry my weight and prove myself in the face of skepticism became a defining characteristic of my approach to any challenge.

Transitioning to a career as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), I carry with me the lessons learned from my experience as a new teacher. Just as I had to prove myself in the classroom, I understand the importance of earning the trust and respect of my colleagues and patients in the field of EMS.
