18
Q

What is your dream job?

A

public library

one that involves travel

19
Q

What four words describe your ideal school?

A

collaborative
innovative
encouraging
safe place

20
Q

How do you administer classroom discipline?

A

classroom behavior chart-classes got a score of 0-5 based on their collective behavior and once the class got to 25 points, they would get a ‘free day’. Students who have not completed library projects don’t get to participate.

moving around the room,
calling on students to keep them engaged in the lesson
taking students aside to have private conversations
non-verbal signals too
make a point of learning student names

21
Q

How would you handle a challenge to a book in your library?

A

I would resort to the challenge policy which should already be in place and follow those steps. (respond to the complainant by phone or email and then if needed ask public member to fill out a form, then form a committee, etc…)

22
Q

How can library instruction and programming help us meet the school or district mission, vision and goals?

A

Usually schools/districts have goals like reading, making informed citizens and libraries help students learn how to find and use information which goes along perfectly with those goals, etc…

collaboration
problem solving
creativity
individualized learning
critical thinking
students learn to advocate for a cause
reading connection to life long learning
23
Q

Describe your teaching or learning style?

A

I use lecture and group/individual work and I try to make library assignments as hands on as possible.

24
Q

Have you supervised other staff, volunteers or student helpers?

A

Yes, I have supervised 3 library assistants as well as a number of parent volunteers at the elementary level. At the high school level, I often had student helpers who I supervised as well. Parent and student volunteers often checked in and out books and shelved these items as well. The library assistants did the same tasks but also created billboards and gave input on the collection and management of the library as well as other duties assigned by the school.

management style-laissez faire and servant leader

25
Q

What is your vision for the library (or our district libraries)?

A

increase use by the staff as an instructional space
students (& staff) would check out more materials (and read them)
students (& staff) would use the library space because they want to be there and they find it a productive place to work and because they simply enjoy being there (provide SEL options-puzzles, games, coloring sheets, etc…)

26
Q

How can the library/libraries instruction and programming help us meet the school or district mission, vision and goals?

A

Libraries will always exist to either provide information in print or electronic form or they will point the way to online sources-ours or others.

The subject matter covered in the curriculum therefore should always be supported by library instruction in information literacy and technology

Libraries are also about reading and will continue to be. Having material to read that matches interests and information needs will help to encourage students to read and encourage the development and continuance of this habit.

27
Q

What is your leadership style?

A

laissez-faire-open to the input of others. Library assistants and student helpers advice sought and or willingly received.

servant-leader-interested in building relationships. I like getting to know the people I work with and their own strengths and weaknesses related to the job.
