Interview Q's Flashcards
What is the role of a data engineer?
The role of a data engineer is to cleanse, organise and correlate the client’s data which improves the quality of the data, from this more valuable insights, better efficiency and overall performance in operation
What is SQL
SQL is a database programming language that is used to communicate with databases to conduct an analysis of data
Where R truly shines
R studio is good for analysing, visualsing trends and building graphics with data spread across multiple of categorys and groups, unlike spreadsheets
What are your strengths?
Motivation, I am driven to complete tasks and enjoy challenges and problem solving.
Organisation and planning, I make checklists to make sure work gets done efficiently and on time
Teamwork: I enjoy and work well with others to complete tasks.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years
1-3 years, finish off my degree, start training with kubrick and work hard on my 2-year placement.
4-6 years, either stay with kubrick as a consultant or join the company I was placed with, it is hard to predict what I feel will suit me at the time, but I am fortunate enough to have the choice.
7-10 years: Senior role in Data Engineering, hopefully a big part of projects that I care about such as healthcare or green energy.
What are your weaknesses
Currently presenting is my weakest trait, I feel like I have made a lot of progress with my experiences at university, but it is definitely something I can improve on.
Why Kubrick?
The graduate scheme that Kubrick offers is filled with opportunity. Firstly, the company have trained over 1000 consultants with 180 in training and 500k training hours delivered, the training is paid and then I will pick a 2-year placement from the range clients provided., then after the 2 years I can choose whether I will stay with the client or return to Kubrick. This graduate scheme is unlike anything else, and it feels like the best place for me to develop into a top data engineer
It would be a pleasure to work for a company like Kubrick and have the opportunity to work with the world’s biggest clients on projects that matter.
What Data Engineering/ Data science examples/case studies in the real world or at Kubrick have caught your interest
The use of EEG data to assist the movement of disabled people.
Also, in general the idea of using data to make decisions is something interesting to me as there would be nothing better to help make decisions than using data this aligns with one of Kubricks core values is evidence over bias.
Why do you want to be a data engineer
I think I have all the qualities that a data engineer should I have and everything the role entails are things I enjoy. I enjoy problem solving, I enjoy challenges, I enjoy working on solutions and adding value. Collaboration and innovation are things that interest me which align with kubricks core values.
How do you perform and deal with pressure?
Pressure is very important to me. Good pressure—such as having many assignments or an upcoming deadline—helps me to stay motivated and productive. Of course, there are times when too much pressure can lead to stress. However, I’m very skilled at balancing multiple projects and meeting deadlines; this ability prevents me from feeling overly stressed. For example, I once had three large projects due in the same week, and that was a lot of pressure. However, because I created a schedule that detailed how I would break down each project into small assignments, I managed to complete all three projects ahead of time and avoided unnecessary stress.
When was a time where you showed initiative/leadership
At university we were assigned random teams of 4 to complete a task of making a Christmas product using the electronic engineering skills we learnt so far. We had to agree upon roles to take to complete this task, everyone was unfamiliar with each other and seemed shy to contribute so I took initiative and suggested that I became team leader, everyone agreed and then I put forward the idea for a group brain storming session to come up with ideas for the project, which is easy way for everyone to contribute. Once the idea was agreed upon, we broke down the task into smaller tasks and I assigned tasks that everyone felt comfortable with doing and making sure split of work is fair.
Tell me about yourself
22 year old male
living in north london
i’m currently studying electronic engineering at royal holloway,
my passions are sports such as
football (man united fan)
f1 (red bull racing)
and chess (hikaru nakamura)
Working out
i enjoy traveling: i’m fortunate enough to have been to many places on my own, with friends and family such as peru, switzerland , san francisco, italy and spain , i hope to go to australia one day
of course i’m interested in data science and engineering, i’ve been able to get a taste as to what working with data can do and it has fueled my passion into working in this industry and hopefully make a difference with the skills I can learn
What is kubrick
Kubrick is a consultancy that provides data solutions to some of the biggest companies in the world.
