interview q Flashcards
How has the student demonstrated its commitment to service in the community
Volunteering at the Detroit Opera House has been a way to escape a busy schedule and enjoy helping around the community with my mom. The detroit opera house has treated me with open arms, and I wanted to share this warmth with others so I organized informational sessions for students at my high school to introduce them to the richness of this experience, and helped them become volunteers as well.
Service projects?
During covid i saw its impact on my sister and kids just like her. Many younger students struggled with the sudden isolation. To address this problem, I helped organize community-wide Art Therapy sessions through the National Art Honor Society. I enrolled in online courses, and attained art therapy and life coaching certificates to be able to help kids on a regular basis. I began teaching a weekly art therapy class for 4th-5th graders as an after school choice hour elective. I was able to offer an hour of creative expression of their feelings and small happiness during their school day.
what have u learned from teaching art as therapy
LEARNED: Through this service, I have gained personal fulfillment and reaffirmed my commitment to making a positive impact in my community.
The student should demonstrate that he or she has dedicated to learning more about their choice of academy through Seminars, ROTC, academy service, etc.
I first learned of the Naval Academy through an email. My mother didn’t want me to even attend the Summer Seminar, but the email piqued my interest. I feel down a rabbit hole of youtube videos about vlogs made by the alumni describing their days at the academy, plebe summer compilations, and lectures by different professors. I begged my mother for me to attend the summer seminar.
learned from summer seminar?
at the summer seminar, I was given the opportunity to explore life as a midshipmen and I saw the life these honorable men and women led was a life I want to pursue. As a high school athlete, sports have been a major factor for my academic success. practice in a freezing pool at 5 AM left my mind clear and ready to learn more. It was through the hard practices that I was able to breathe and absorb the day. Pushing my limits is a vital trait in my personality and there is no better place to do it than the naval academy.
Students should show an active display of leadership in extracurricular activities whether in physical activities, volunteer groups, service organizations, etc.

Do you understand the details around the path that you are choosing?
Want to become a Nuclear Surface Warfare Officer
How have you prepared for the physical, military and academic rigors that you will encounter at the Academy?
Academically, I have taken vigorous classes through my high school career, as well as enrolled myself in classes outside of school. Physically I involve myself in numerous sports and clubs throughout the year. I have also participated in a triathlon and hope to compete in another this year. For the military aspects, my father is an engineer for the army. Through experiences in living in Korea for a year, traveling across army bases, I was fortunate enough to gain insight on life as a soldier, the possibilities it brings, and the personality it requires.
Do you understand the Academy’s honor code, and how are you prepared to support it?
I value honesty and believe in the importance of telling the truth, not only for personal growth but also for maintaining a culture of trust and transparency. I am committed to ensuring that the truth is known and that I contribute to an environment where honesty is the norm.
Fairness is another principle that resonates with me. I believe in treating others with respect and ensuring that my actions are just and impartial. When it comes to academic work, I am prepared to submit only my own work and to seek assistance in a manner that is authorized and properly documented. Cheating goes against the principles of fairness, and I am determined to uphold the code by avoiding any dishonest practices.
Respecting the property of others is a fundamental aspect of being part of a community. I understand the importance of this principle and am committed to ensuring that I not only respect the property of others but also contribute to an environment where everyone can benefit from the use of their own belongings.

Why did you select the particular Service Academy you did and why?
The Naval Academy’s rigorous academic curriculum not only provides a strong foundation in engineering and the sciences but also emphasizes leadership and character development. I believe this holistic approach will not only challenge me academically but also mold me into a well-rounded and principled leader.
What is your plan if you don’t receive an appointment to a Service Academy?
In the event that I do not receive an appointment, I have the following plans for my future. I will apply for NROTC scholarships to support my education, and I intend to study Physics at a university. This will not deter my commitment to service, but it will merely lead me down a different path.
- What is a leader to me?
