Interview Preparation 2 Flashcards
Tell me about yourself
I’m Jason Kim. I have a computer science master’s degree and extensive work experience as a software developer. I had worked for Samsung Electronics in South Korea for about 16 years and I lived in Korea until last year. My life in Korea was stable and good. But I wanted to DO challenge, I really wanted to take an adventure. After getting the green-card without any supporting from any company, I just quit the company and started a new challenging life here in America.
I already have known they are many service companies based on Web technology and I really want to be a full-stack developer. So I have learned many latest web development technologies at Learning Fuze bootcamp. I successfully conducted private projects as well as team projects because I could understand them based on my work experiences and computer science knowledge.
So I can confidently say I have many software knowledge, experience and skills.
I am ready to work and contribute to the company using my skills. This is a short story of mine.
What project(s) are you proud of?
One of my proud projects of software development is launching the 4G WiMax service which is prior to 4G LTE service in Korea for the first time in the world. The service’s release date was already fixed but there were several critical problems. Sometimes, I had to debug and make codes in a ban for two days and nights continuously. Finally, it started to service successfully on the market and my team got a reward from the company.
Disagreement with a coworker
I had experienced these situations especially when I was a product planner. There were many stakeholders such as hardware engineers, software engineers, designers and marketing members who have different opinions. The most important thing which I have realized through my experience is this. First, listening carefully to other person’s opinions. The second is figuring out fast what is the most important limitation and what can be an alternative. The last one is moderation.
What is your weaknesses?
One of my weakness is English. English is my second language, so I still have some difficulties to understand and communicate properly. A couple of years ago, I got a conference call with Vodafone which was located in Germany. I need to write the minutes from that meeting, it was hard for me to understand what was discussed during the call. So, to finish my roll and overcome that situation, I listened the recorded audio file again after the conference call. then I could write a minutes finally. This is one of important bucket lists of the challenging life. I know it’s not easy and it’ll take lots of time. But I’ll do my best. I still keep trying to overcome this weakness in English.
What is your Strengths?
One of my strengths is my developer experience. I have experienced various os environments and computer languages. I think understanding various platforms, os and computer languages is a kind of important and powerful asset for software developers.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I’d like to be a professional full-stack developer and have a specialty in JavaScript and Python. There are so many tech stacks in web development, so it is hard to master all stacks. But I have a lot of experience in software development in the past, so I hope to be a professional developer in web development and contribute to the company . I’m still hungry to learn new things, technologies.
What project(s) are you proud of?
I’m proud of my POS system project.
I wanted to make a web application which I have learned all. So the program includes the lasted web technologies such as Node.js, React, Ant design for UX, Webpack, PostgreSQL, Express, responsive design. This is not for commercial application but has essential features of a commercial product.

What is your weaknesses? 2
I had difficulty setting priorities when various problems occurred together. Sometimes I handled my favorite areas first. But to overcome my bad habit, I am trying to prioritize, do important things first, set principles not to put off work, and follow those principles.
What is your weaknesses? 2
I had difficulty setting priorities when various problems occurred together. Sometimes I handled my favorite areas first. For example, if there are two problems. One is a GUI issue that is simple but not interesting, and the other is a critical debugging issue which can take a few hours. I did the last complicated problem first. But to overcome my bad habit, I am trying to prioritize, do important things first, set principles not to put off work, and follow those principles.

What is your weaknesses? 3
Another weakness is understanding new culture, people and work environment. Because my american life is very short and due to the COVID-19, there is still a lot of lack of understanding of American culture and people. But I’m trying to meet many people and get new connections with people. I think Learning fuze bootcamp is a good chance to overcome this weakness.
What is your advantage ? 1
My biggest strength is that I complete my task. The most memorable moment was about the file system during my software experience. Every commercial mobile devices must pass a long-run test which are tested by test machines automatically for a whole week. There should be no lockup, no reboot, no critical errors among about 50 devices. When I developed a mobile phone, there was a reboot issue while the long-run testing. It accorded by only one or two devices randomly. There were no logs or special cases. But after one month, I finally fixed the issue by look though all source codes. If I hadn’t fixed the problem, the device couldn’t have been released. Anyway, I always try to complete my task and never give up. I think this is very very important for developers.
What is your advantage ? 2
My another strength is that I have extensive software development experience. I admit that my career that I have had is little bit different from web development. But I still have the abilities of how to think like an engineer, how to debug, how to work with other programmers and UX designers, how to learn new technologies. I have experienced various os environments and computer languages. I think understanding various platforms, os and computer languages is a kind of important and powerful asset for software developers.
What is your advantage ? 3
Now I even know how to business and understand customers. For recent five years, my job position has been a product planner in charge of AI speaker and IoT related products. In this period, I also had worked with software engineers, 3rd party partners and so many managers. Negotiation and communication skills, presentation, time management, team management, like these skills are very important in business. I have trained these skills in this period and continued to study new IT trends and technologies. So now, I can understand business as well as programming.
