Interview Prep - HR Flashcards
How do you approach the crew concept?
Well, it’s all I have ever known. Almost all of my flying, whether at ERAU or in the Part 121 world has been in a crew concept scenario. I expect certain things from the captain and certain things from the IRP, DX, MX, etc. I like the fact that we have CRM today and that all these people can and should be included in decisions. I can’t imagine flying in an environment of days gone by where the captain is it. I like to think I fit and play well in the crew concept adding my opinion when and where it’s needed and I try to always be SOP so others in the loop can know what to expect from me.
What makes a good pilot?
Someone who shows up to work on time, with a good attitude and establishes a relaxed environment. Someone who is SOP and can have fun but knows when to be serious. Someone who knows their job and does it well.
What do you do on your overnights?
-
Drunk pilot scenario?
Convince to call in sick.
More persistant, you need to call in sick or I will for you.
If continues to refuse threaten to call CP
If refuses then call CP/scheduling.
Nonstandard (meh) pilot?
A non standard pilot I may make small comments, that’s not standard or you are screwing my up because you are doing things out of SOP. As long as it’s not causing any major errors, or we are catching them then I may not push the matter very much.
–Very – nonstandard pilot?
Someone who flies very non standard, I will flat out say, that is not SOP, it’s screwing my up and making my job harder as I have to concentrate much more on what I am doing but also what what you are doing to make sure we don’t make a mistake. Maybe call pro standards.
Tell us about yourself.
-
Why Atlas?
-
What do you do when your captain has get-there-itis and the aircraft has a major mx issue but still wants to go?
Again, say we have to deal with it. Bring the FME into the loop. Push the matter until you have to call company.
TMAAT that you dealt with an emergency.
Freedom Air baggage hold fire indication.
Is it possible to turn down a 767 class to wait for a 747 class?
-
TMAAT that you had to make an operational decision.
Ebola incident.
TMAAT that you had to use CRM to deal with a problem.
The fire indication incident on the ERJ. We used CRM by asking the FA to go into the lav to look thru the peep hole into the baggage compartment for smoke. She said it appears there is smoke. The captain and I discussed it and decided to run the baggage fire QRH procedure. We then declared an emergency with ATC, called the dispatcher and discussed where the closest diversion airport was to our position. We then had the DX call SVN to tell them we were coming. Once landed we talked to the firemen over the radio to verify there was no fire.
What do you think your employer would say about you if we called them?
Nothing! Haha. What I mean is that I go to work, do my job to the best of my ability, try and have fun, fly SOP and go home. I like to stay off the radar and not cause problems. But if they really did know me it would be that I am reliable, always on time, knowledgeable, and a good stick.
Where else have I applied? Would I leave if called? I said no. They dug a little deeper as to why I wouldn’t go to a Delta or United.
The big 3
No, not any more.
I have discovered I really like this work schedule and it works well for my family. I like being able to live anywhere and not having to commute and I really don’t miss dealing with passengers, gate agents, flight attendants, TSA, rampers, etc.
