What do you know about this position?
The Primary Care Clinic Clerk performs clerical and receptionist duties for the family practice office during daytime and evening hours. Including answering calls, booking appointments, checking in patients and assisting clinicians to maximize clinic efficiency.
What skills do you possess that will make you a good candidate for this job?
I’m a hard worker, honest and ethical with good time management skills. I have a high degree of literacy and confidentiality and I thrive in a fast-paced environment as part of a team.
You’re in the grocery store and a patient’s neighbour approaches you and asks how they’re doing. What do you tell them?
I tell them that respectfully, that is confidential information and they can reach out to the patient or next of kin directly.
Explain your education and experience, and how it prepared you for this position.
For education, I have completed a medical office administration diploma with a focus on medical transcription. This gave me the experience of working with medical documents in a fast-paced environment, with a high degree of confidentiality and accuracy. I have experience with computer systems including Windows and Microsoft Office Suite. I enjoy helping people and being part of a team, I’m always looking to broaden my knowledge.
If you have a document with the wrong patient identifier, what do you do?
I would communicate with the team, confirm the correct information, fix the issue and flag the chart if it’s likely to reoccur. If there is a report to be filled out, I would ensure that is completed.
What do you do if a patient identifies they have COVID?
I ensure they have proper PPE and hand hygiene available, and that they are suitably separated from anyone who could contract it from them. I would request the area be cleaned upon their departure.
What is culture?
Culture is not just ethnicity, but education, socioeconomic status, and social norms for a specified group.
What is cultural competency and how does it contribute to the team?
Cultural competency is being nonjudgemental, having an open mind and being aware of potential bias. This can create a diverse team where everyone’s skills contribute.
Explain how your career has been enhanced by diversity?
Diverse teams give me insight to values and beliefs that I may not have been aware of, many different backgrounds and skills make for a team that plays to everyones strengths.
What is confidential information?
Confidential information is employee information, including disciplinary action, patient information including their health and financial information and corporate information including company memos.
How do you protect confidential information?
I do not share my passwords, I lock my workstation when it’s not in use. I access information minimally and on an as-needed basis. I never take company property off the grounds.
What do you do if you hear coworkers talking openly about confidential information?
I remind them that the information is confidential and if it amounted to a serious breach, I would report it to my manager.
