Interspecific Competition Flashcards
What is interspecific competition?
Interspecific Competition = individuals of different species compete for the same resources in an ecosystem
How does non renewable, renewable and constant rate resource dynamics affect population? (resource supply rate, point)
if Non Renewable:
- expect increase in population then results in extinction
- some species able to survive period of limited resource → reach carrying capacity
if Completely Renewable:
results in exponential increase in population (although cannot go on indefinitely as pop will eventually be too much for resources available
if constant rate: (resource supply rate)
reaches an equilibrium where consumption = supply (R*) → any changes will cause pop size to return to eqm e.g not enough resources → some die → resource increase so pop size increase
Resource Supply Point = measures total amount of resource in environment (can be in environment or bound up in organisms
