Cause of Pain

A

Most common causes of chronic pain in internal conditions = Qi stagnation, Blood stasis, Cold.

Qi stagnation: causes distention more than pain, which comes and goes according to emotional state. Locations = epigastrium and abdomen.

Liver-Yang Rising: type of Qi stagnation or rebellious Qi. ^chronic headaches and distending, throbbing pain.

Stasis of Blood: severe boring or stabbing pain, fixed in small area. Locations = head chest epigastrium abdomen and Uterus.

Cold: Full or Empty. Cramping spastic pain aggravated by cold weather foods. Alleviated by heat. Locations = epigastrium abdomen Uterus joints.

Heat: causes pain when accompanied by Dampness. Damp-Heat causes burning pain with feeling of fullness and heaviness. Locations = forehead epigastrium abdomen Uterus Bladder and joints.

Exterior pathogenic factor: Wind or Dampness. Wind^ occipital headache and stiffness. Dampness^ joints and epigastrium.

Retention of food: children. Intense with a feeling of fullness.

Phlegm: does not usually cause pain, except in joints.
