Quantitative data - numerical e.g. stats -

what approach do interpretivists take?
micro approach - focusing on the experience of the individual
sociology should not be studied scientifically
understand thoughts + feelings
what type of data do interpretivists favour?
Qualitative data - words, opinions, images etc
things that give meaning
want valid data + seek Verstehen (understanding what it is like to walk in someone else’s shoes)
what methods might interpretivists use?
- unstructured interviews (may use semi-structured)
- participant observation (rapport)
