Interpretation - Qualitative Flashcards
Normal Signals
Triphasic
- rapid upslope
- sharp peak
- rapid downstroke
- flow reversal
- resumption of forward flow
- ex: UE, LE a.
Abnormal Signals
Biphasic
- rapid upslope
- sharp peak
- fairly rapid downstroke
- flow reversal
- no resumption of forward flow
- considered as normal in some pt
Abnormal Signals
Monophasic
- slow upstroke
- rounded peak
- slow downstroke
- no reversal
look for deterioration in signal quality from
one level to the next, as well as the prev exam
monophasic signal often obtained
prox to obstruction
well collateralized occlusion can appear similar to flow
distal to a stenosis
vasodilatation of the distal vessel often occur with
prox obstruction, reducing pulsatility, causing signal to have lower resistant flow quality
sub a is
high resistant, multiphasic flow
sub a. prox obstruction or critical stenosis will make signal more
monophasic
flow patterns in hand quite variable, low resistant signals can be found in
brachial, radial and ulnar in the relaxed warm pt
normal doppler waveform post exercise: pre exercise waveform qualities are
mantain or augmented. no reverse component
abdnormal doppler waveform post exercise
more rounded peak, no reverse component
absent doppler signals may suggest
occlusion or pre occlusive vesse
analog doppler not capable of portraying velocites of less than
6 cm/sec
Troubleshoting
recorder stylus not recording
